(My apologies for this cartoon, I thought it was too funny.)
I could make a list of things I disagree with John McCain or Sarah Palin about. I think it is safe to say that those who are voting for the Republican ticket in the Presidential campaign are going in with eyes-wide-open. Of course there are those right-wing crazies who's talking points consist of "Barack Obama is a terrorist in hiding" or "Barack Obama is the next Mao" or even worse, "Barack Obama is the anti-Christ". They are among the extreme minority, my guess, less than 5%. Probably the same percentage of those on the extreme left who believe President Bush orchestrated 9-11. With those taken out of the mix, I would guess over 75% know Sen. McCain is not going to be the answer to all their problems. Most Republican's voting for Sen. McCain understand what they're getting, blemishes (or sunspots) and all.

On the other hand, I have been overwhelmed with the feeling that many (not all) Sen. Obama supporters either do not know or will not accept factual faults of their Presidential candidate. I will be the first to admit Barack Obama seems to be a hard-working, loving, family man. I will defend him to anyone who tries to demonize him. However, I have seen small amounts of scrutiny on his policies, positions or character traits by his supporters. Am I alone here? I know we have several Democrats who read this blog, and I would love to hear your take. I know I roll my eyes when people try to make John McCain into something he is not just to get him elected. Do you have the same reaction when you see thronging crowds chanting Obama's name with tears in their eyes, or when elementary school kids sing a song praising him? Neither candidate will be able to fulfill their promises. Like John Stosel said, they are not Santa Claus or our Savior.
Am I alone in being sick of the glorification of our candidates, by their supporters?

You wrote the post that was in my head today. I was just thinking this morning. I have never seen the fervor by the masses that I have seen surrounding Obama. Just go on youtube and the crying, chanting, god like worship is everywhere. I know people who revere Regan, Washington, and a few others but I have NEVER seen this. This kind of response has only been reserved for followers of religious leaders or crazy dictators. Where is the scrutiny and honesty about their candidate? Even if you think he is your guy he isn't the Savior of mankind and he does have flaws. It is crazy to me.
Ok here I go again. Even in response to the fact that Obama only contributes 1% to charity. No one will just say, yeah that sucks. I am voting for him but he is stingy. No they say, even though he is rich rich rich, he didn't give money because "he must have given his time". They just can comprehend that he has a flaw.
I support McCain but have NEVER touted that he contributes 26% of his income to charity...I don't because I know that some of that goes to his wife's foundation and some to his childrens private school. I am not sure where the rest of his contributions go. I am not positive he is super altruistic just because his charity number is 26%. It looks impressive on its face but I don't think he is a flawless Messiah. Ok enough said, this has been bugging me....can you tell?
I haven't been commenting lately. I have just been sitting back and reading until today. Yes, I am tired. Hero worship is not my thing, it realy makes my blood boil knowing that there is one and only one true hero. we know him ladies. Jesus.
Thanks for the good laugh I had over the cartoon. How true it is! How true.
Love and respect to you gals.
You brought up 20/20 again so here I go again :) I guess I was just really affected by the who politician=magician thing and the reality of what govt programs look like. Really, what do to they do for us? Empty promises that do more damage than the good they intended.
I am so tired of Obama getting a free pass in the media. They try to make it look like they are being hard on him by saying something ever so seldom about what he really stands for. Maybe I'm going exterme right on this statement (I hope this doesn't disqualify my future comments), but I really think that he is a wolf in sheeps clothing. He reminds me of the lawyers in the book of mormon. He is incredible with is words and his eloquence, but when you listen to what he is really saying and you look at his record, it is NOT good. He is worse than any of the rest of them. McCain is NOT my first pick or even my 5th pick, but he's the better of the 2. How is it fair that McCain and Palin get hammered in the media and the same "respect" isn't being given to Obama and Biden.
Sara, we've missed you. you are right there is only one true hero.
Love your blog! It's good to know I'm not alone in my thoughts regarding our current political situation.
I just stumbled on your blog and found this post to be exacty what's been on my mind ... I think that a large portion of Obama's supporters are all excited about his first as a black man, and personally I give him credit. There are also the folks who are lower-middle class to low income who are so greatful that he's talking to them about lending another break (aka entitlement..or redistribution of wealth) that they miss the fact that if *THEY* are getting a break or more help from the government they'll be biting the hand that essentially feeds them. Unfortunatly many are un or undereducated and will fail to get both sides of the issue, hearing only the points they percieve as good of 'their' candidate. I am really concerned over this election - and I'm not sure if it's because I'm more educated this time. Just watched this video with many parts- very interesting. http://www.youtube.com/inetevents
I wish the press were more balanced. It is sad that only 3 out of the how many majors outlets are "balanced" and not just free Obama press.
I appreciate the one Hero comment and I am glad that I have the Hope only He can give to rest in His plan no matter what this election brings.

Those poor uneducated, stupid Democrats...
Hi! I've been keeping up with this blog for a little while, but have never posted a comment. I'll admit, I have an aquaintance who is constantly sending me email "demonizing" Obama. Gimme a break! I happen to like the guy well enough as a person. I'm sure he's great, but I don't agree at all with most of his political views and can't understand why so much focus is put on "I'm the savior of the world and you're the devil." Can't they ("they" meaning the candidates AND their supporters) just stick to policy? Tell me your plan and I'll vote for you or not. Sounds so easy. The scariest part about Obama isn't Obama, it's many of his followers. (Discaimer: I know that it's not ALL of them) Love the blog!!
