Cute post. I must say Sarah looks great in that last pic. I really can't wait until I see a woman as vice pres or pres. It will make me proud.

This was the front page story in our paper this morning. Talking about her $80,000 wardrobe. It made me angry. They would make fun of her if she shopped at Walmart! You don't see them going through Obama's closet and racking up prices on his suits!(or the rest of the Congress and Senate.) Drives me nuts. I shop at Kohl's and womens clothes are expensive. Swimsuits for gosh sakes are $50 and $60 dollars and frankly there isn't enough fabric for that price! At least for this bod! :)
It will be priceless to see her as VP won't it.

Actually I heard it was $150,000 and they used campaign money. That is what makes me sick. If it was her own money I wouldn't care but if I had donated to their campaign I would be upset that this is what my money was spent on. I know campaign money is used to help them get elected but I would hope they wouldn't think I was that shallow that I would only think she looked nice if she was wearing name brands. Personally I can't even tell the difference. I know she needs to look nice out there, no one wants a messy looking VP. But you can find nice clothes in nice department stores that aren't as much as what you would spend at the places they went, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Ave. And I am sure as governor she already had nice clothes. What was wrong with those? I did hear they are going to donate them to charity which is good but I still think it is a riduculous amount of money to spend on clothes. I could buy a house with that!

Oh, I forgot to add that it isn't just about her. I have no idea but maybe they do the same thing with the men, using campaign money to buy really expensive suits. I just think it is a ridiculous thing to spend donated money on. It seems like it could be better spent on more important things other than looks. Unfortunately I guess that says a lot about our society.

Be so careful about what you believe that comes from our mainstream media. That I've learned from very personal experience. On Sarah's wardrobe: $150,000 was spent initially. She didn't do her own shopping, others bought her clothes for her, and 1/3of the initial purchase was returned and another 1/3 of it has yet to be used. Like it or not, we live in a world in which she wouldn't be taken seriously if she were dressed "cheaply". I don't agree with it, but doesn't she look nice? It's part of the campaign. She must look the part of a vice pres. in order to be seen as one. I can see it, my friends.

Thank you for those additional details! It is a balancing act between looking the part and remaining relatable. People who have donated money to either party knows that a majority of their money will be spent on advertising, and I see this as advertising. And if you break it down, a well-tailored designer complete outfit runs about $1500. She would be criticized if she wore the same thing over and over, and think about how many appearances she has through out the campaign, over 100? That averages out to be $150,000. Do I think it is superficial? Yes. But it is part of the game.

"The use of campaign funds for items which most Americans would consider to be strictly personal reasons, in my view, erodes public confidence and erodes it significantly." Senator John McCain, May 1993.

The 2002 campaign finance law that bears McCain's name specifically barred any funds that "are donated for the purpose of supporting the activities of a federal or state office holder" from being used for personal expenses including clothing. Good thing they used the RNC money instead.

The detail you left out of your Associated Press quote was, the law does NOT specifically mention party committees, including the RNC or the DNC. Technically the RNC purchased their clothing and other necessary campaign items. And the Democrats are not clean from 'questionable' spending either. It is difficult to see what Obama has spent on clothes or airfare or hotels, because in his FEC filing, as much as $1.2 million in credit card charges did not contain the necessary detailed information. FEC said it is not out of the ordinary to amend your reports. Also, Sen. Biden passed on $2 million from his Presidential campaign funds to a company that employs his sister and campaign manager. And although it can be seen as nepotism, it is legal.
My point: If you don't trust your candidate with your campaign donations, why would you trust them with what they do with your taxes. And if you didn't donate to their campaign, don't complain. That was surprisingly catchy.

I know about the RNC and that it is legal for them, that is why I added that at the end of my comment that it was a good thing it was the RNC money and not the campaigns. I wasn't saying they were doing anything illegal.

And you don't need to get so defensive about the spending. I said anybody who spends that much money, democrat or republican, that it is ridiculous.

And isn't complaining pretty much part of your entire blog? Complaining about the gov't, entitlements, Obama, abortion, etc. You are right though, I shouldn't complain. That is just less money the RNC can spend on republican congressional and senate campaigns in other states. They can go out and buy as many $92rompers for her son as they want.

Mandy, I was not being directly defensive to your comment but focusing on the reality of politics. And I agree that to this extent it is ridiculous, but reality. And if you honestly think our blog is entirely complaining, why read? I wouldn't! It would be depressing, especially coming from the other side. But that is not our blog and I would assert that most of those who read this blog, and even agree with you politically, would disagree with that statement. Are you following the concept of "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer?" :)

I'm sorry if I insulted you and your blog. I was upset because you told me to stop complaining and to me I felt like I wasn't complaining, just debating my side of the issue, which is what I thought you wanted (I refer to the 'Declare yourself' post). To hear everyone's opinion and then when I give mine you tell me to stop complaining. I was just a little insulted. I thought your entire blog was to learn and debate about both sides of the issues. So since you said my debating was complaining then I came to the conclusion your blog is about complaining. So, I got on and typed and sent before I had time to think about what I was writing and that it would come out rude. I apologize.

FYI--Palin was on Sean Hannity's show yesterday and said that she didn't accept the money for her wardrobe. She further said that her favorite clothing store is a consignment shop in wasilla. She also said her favorite shoe store was in Juno.
