There has been much conversation about the videos posted on YouTube with school children singing about President Obama. I have seen several of these videos, including the currently popular one filmed in New Jersey. Mmm...Mmm...Good! Barack Hussein Obama!
Several conservative talking heads have compared this to indoctrination of the Hitler Youth. I believe to make that weighty comparison accurate, the children would have to be taught through an organized cirriculum handed down from the administration itself. So, I completely dismiss that over-generalization.
However, it begs the question, did President Obama finally restore respect for the office of the President, or is Rock Star Obama the new American Idol accepting fan mail and idol worship? At what point does enthusiasm cross the line from respect to worship? Several of the lyrics from one song, I believe, crossed that line. "We are all equal in his sight", for example. Yet, there was another video that spoke about him being our 44th President, and how the kids want to get an education to become the President in 2048.
My Take: There are currently only a handful of these videos on YouTube, in different parts of the country. The parents of the children who attend these schools should be the only ones to get their parental panties in a twist. It is not educational material passed down from Lord Obama, it is over-enthusiastic teachers either encouraging respect for our President and our great nation, or singing praises to their new Prophet in Chief. And I would not be surprised if there were several classrooms across the country (particularly in Texas), who sang songs about President Bush following 9-11. Too bad YouTube wasn't around then!

Thank you John Stewart for proving me right! There were songs about President Bush, but it was following Katrina. Both sides do play by the same rules.
Did we forget about the lesson plans handed down from the white house to school districts across the country during the president's speech? That was an effort of the administration to direct classroom lessons. Some teachers and school officials revolted and one guy was even fired for not including the lesson plans.
would democrats think it was indoctrination if the recordings showed kids singing something like this: "mmmm, mmm, mmm...George W. Bush, he said we all must pitch in so terrorism cannot strike again...mmm, mmm, mmm George W. Bush!"
The message would be similar, but politically charged. The liberal teachers are attempting to restore respect to DEMOCRAT presidents. When the president was a republican they taught kids to be skeptical of govt. Now they want to teach kids that BHO is worthy of not only our respect, but SUPPORT in his big expansion of govt. This presidency will only put republicans back in charge for decades. I think it will be hard for people to forget all the bailouts, Iran's charge for nuclear weapons, failing healthcare reform, losing a war in Afghanistan under his watch, and all the while, he's parading around on Letterman, Leno, SNL, liberal talk shows, taking lavish vacations, lobbying for the olympics to come to his hometown and on and on and on! But mark my words, the topic of the next campaign will still be George W. Bush! They'll still blame Bush for all their problems. It certainly couldn't be the democrats in the house and senate!
oh, and the song about Bush mentioned him ONE time and was a "thank you" for an ACTION, and not politically charged. This song of praise is based on WORDS that Obama has said and is a message to the kids that we should be happy because Obama "said" we could change and have hope. I say, hold the praise until he's changed something for the better and provided hope.
I hope someone, ANYONE, Democrat or Republican, can get their act together before 2010 and get conservative values restored in Washington through mid-term elections. I honestly wouldn't care which side of the aisle, if they called for a freeze on this massive spending and reducing the size of government. But right now, there isn't a voice of opposition in politics.
